Wild Lands & Rivers
Santa Rosa Peak Area National Monument Addition

Size: Approximately 3,507 acres
Management Agency: United States Forest Service
Location: South of Highway 74 and the communities of Pinyon, adjacent to Santa Rosa Indian Reservation
Description:
Incorporating the area in the Monument will increase management efficiencies by placing the campground, the Santa Rosa Mountain Road and other facilities under one management plan.
The Santa Rosa Springs campground is also within the proposed addition, improving campground maintenance and allowing non-profit groups, such as Friends of the Desert Mountains, to raise matching funds for its benefit. The campground provides quality camping experience for Monument visitors.
A spring in the vicinity of the campground could also benefit from the stewardship it would receive if it were in the Monument. A portion of the proposed Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains Conservation Area in the proposed Coachella Valley Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan is within the Monument addition, protecting the rare Gray Vireo and its habitat and many other important species and resources.
